Publisher's brown cloth, original green printed dust jacket with an illustration by Cummings; light offsetting to paste-downs; jacket restored, lined with sympathetic paper, chipped, and renewed in a few places. Housed in a cloth slipcase with decorative inlays and folding chemise. 

First edition, first issue, with "Shit!" present on final line of p. 219; signed by Cummings on the front free endpaper. The author's first book, detailing his experiences in a prison camp in France during World War I.
