The late 1990's to the early 2000s would be an exciting period for the watchmaking world. Still recovering from the impact of the quartz crisis, brands would bring a breath of fresh air to the industry, bringing about bold and experimental watch designs. For Cartier, it would be their highly distinctive Collection Privée Cartier Paris collection, or "CPCP" for short. Blending high precision movement making with heritage case designs of the Maison, the "CPCP" collection was known to collectors for their collaboration with renowned watchmaking powerhouses, such as Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vianney Halter and François-Paul Journe.

A cornerstone of the CPCP collection, the Tortue is known to be incorporated by complications such as the single button chronograph or perpetual calendar. The present example on the other hand, returns to the root for its time only function. Fully expressive with the beauty of watchmaking, the dial displays a rose pattern motif, radiating from the centre. Artistic and elegant, it is the definitive collector's piece and is very sought after by collectors today.
