Commissioned by Max Waechter of Terrace House, Richmond, Surrey, (Alma-Tadema’s receipt to Max Waechter for £2,200, 15 April 1890 was formerly attached to the verso) until his death in 1924 and presumably thence to his son Sir Harry Sedan Waechter until his death in 1929 and thence by further descent
