Tinker Hatfield is a legendary designer among sneaker enthusiasts, known for his incredible contributions to Nike's most iconic shoes. As Nike's Vice President for Design and Special Projects for over 40 years, Hatfield has created iconic sneakers that merge technical and aesthetic innovation with captivating stories.
The Nike Air Trainer 1, introduced in 1987, stands as the inaugural cross-training shoe. Crafted by Hatfield and donned by notable athletes such as Bo Jackson and John McEnroe, it remains one of Nike's most renowned sportswear designs. Hatfield's inspiration for the shoe struck during a visit to the gym, where he observed that many individuals were lugging two pairs of shoes - one for running and another for weightlifting.
Offered in this lot is a copy of the fax that Hatfield sent to Mark Parker and Steve Mellor for approval during the design process. The fax is dated “7/24/86”. The signature on the copy is original.
The lot is accompanied by a letter from James Spence Authentication in regards to the signature.
