Description

NIKE, NIKE SB DUNK LOW, SIZE 10

Rubber, Leather, Cotton, Synthetic

2005

In 1996, runner Michael Johnson made history during the Atlanta Olympics winning both the 200M and 400M events and setting a world record in the 200m. During this historic performance, Johnson wore a pair of the now iconic, gold Nike track spikes.

In 2005, Nike produced this Nike Dunk Low Pro ‘Zytel’ utilizing the same composite material called Zytel, found on Johnson’s track shoes that day.

Michael Hernandez, the former Global Creative Director of Brand Design at Nike SB, was seemingly behind the design. After over two decades, Hernandez left Nike in 2013 and started Bruin Studio in 2014.

In 2021, Bruin Studio shared information about the elusive Nike SB Dunk. “Nike SB Zytel Gold Dunk Low. Made from the same Dupont composite material called Zytel, as Michael Johnson’s famous gold Nike track spikes that earned him a pair of gold medals at the Atlanta Summer Olympics in 1996. Only two pairs of these Nike SB Zytel Gold Dunks were made for Michael Hernandez.”
