Amber Tutwiler (b. 1988) is a painter originally from South Florida who incorporates sculpture, installation, new media, and performance into her practice. Known for highly rendered oil paintings that resemble digitally collaged photographs of the body and fabric, she explores topics of agency and power dynamics of the gaze in her work. She attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design for Painting (2006-08) and received her MFA in Visual Art from Florida Atlantic University (2017). Her work has been featured in the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, Project Gallery V, Paradice Palase, Soft Times Gallery, and Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Prestigious awards include the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship in 2019. Her work is part of the permanent collection for the state of Utah. Tutwiler currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she is an Assistant Professor at Utah Valley University teaching across foundations, painting, and drawing.
