Donated by the Artist.

Jose Margulis began his career as an artist through photography while studying management in his native Venezuela. Margulis worked in a family-run business exploring digital printing. He later decided to apply his professional skills to artmaking as he progressively became interested in sculpture. Like most Venezuelan artists from his generation, Margulis came of age with the rise of Geometric Abstraction and Kinetic art and was influenced by Venezuelan master Jesús Soto and Russian constructivist Naum Gabo. Gabo's Linear Constructions inspired his Space series, which challenges the construction of volume and space.

Abstraction is the language he masters with ease. Margulis works predominantly in geometric 3D sculpture, mixed media, and photography. His colorfully sculpted pieces emerge as models for his photographic creations. Conversely, each medium coexists individually yet dialogues with the other. He has participated in numerous exhibitions and international art fairs. His works are part of corporate and private collections in Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Italy, Spain, Australia, China, Dubai, and the United States. He lives and works in Miami, Florida.
