The bottom of the tankard has a medal embedded inside, which was cast in 1558 in the workshop of Nickel Milicz in Jáchymov. It features an image of Samson with the gate of Gaza and a Latin transcription.
Cornelius van dem Heffel was born in Antwerp, one of the most important goldsmith centers in Renaissance Europe, where he completed his eight-year apprenticeship. In 1588, he acquired the Frankfurt citizenship and became a master goldsmith there.

Une médaille datée 1558 de l'atelier de Nickel Milicz à Joachimsthal est encastrée dans le fond de la chope. Elle représente Samson avec la porte de Gaza entouré d'une transcription en latin.
Cornelius van dem Heffel est originaire d'Anvers, l'un des plus importants centres d'orfèvrerie de l'Europe de la Renaissance, où il a également effectué son apprentissage de huit ans. En 1588, il obtint la citoyenneté de Francfort et y devint maître orfèvre.
