Diminished Day embodies Lynne Drexler’s application of her signature swatch-like patches executed with a Pointillist dynamism to the subject matter of the natural world that the artist immersed herself in during her later years in Maine. This captivating composition exudes the atmosphere of a wooded fall landscape through rich tones masterfully composed in subtly differing shades. Long overshadowed by her male New York School artistic peers, despite embodying a pioneer in her own right, Lynne Drexler is now part of a generation of female artists being written back into the artistic canon as a pivotal member of the second-generation Abstract Expressionists.
