Tyler Hobbs, based in Austin, is one of the leading figures in the contemporary generative art sphere. Released in June 2021, the Fidenza project rapidly grew into one of the most highly regarded generative art projects to date. Following in the technical footsteps of artists like Roman Verostko and Vera Molnar, Hobbs’ creates visual frameworks algorithmically and plays with variations within them. Each artwork is entirely unique based on a series of 999 outputs, with each work bearing the artist's recognizable ''flow field'' that conveys this vivid movement to the composition spanning a variety of colors, from vibrant colors to black and white or monochrome. The scale also defines the level of detail produced in the output, accentuating this sensation of movement within the work.
Hobbs relates his work to the system-based practices of artists like Sol LeWitt and Agnes Martin, who took similarly methodical approaches to mark-making. He also refers to the visual artist Casey Reas for building the software he uses to create his work.
Fidenza #725 is one of the most appealing and complex compositions across the series of 999 outputs created by Tyler Hobbs and generated by his program. The rhythm provided by the movement paired with the variations of small and very thin blocks provides this impression of fluids circulating to a focal point. The tension and curves are characteristic to this project and the most sought after elements and what Hobbs calls ‘’flow field’’.
Fidenza #725 is a rare work to come to market. There are seven different “scales” that Fidenza can operate. This characteritic controls the sizes of the potential shapes. Most scales have a probabilistic mix of small, medium, and large elements. Small scale is considered to be the most rare, only 14 out of 999 Fidenzas showcase them.
