A Pair of Large Gilt-Bronze Mounted Sèvres Style Gilt and Painted Porcelain Vases and Covers, Circa 1880


Each baluster vase decorated with gilt cartouches reserved on a dark blue ground incorporating court scenes, one vase depicting:

The Jealousy of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots, alarmed at observing her entertained and delighted by David Rizzio, after Giovanni Battista Cipriani with script text: La Jalousie de Lord Darnley.

The other vase depicting:

The Duke of Northumberland offering the Crown to Lady Jane Gray, with script text:

Le Duc de Northumberland Offre Sa Couronne A Lady Jeanne Gray.

Each reverse decorated with an elaborate gilt cartouche incorporating mountainous landscapes centered by a castle.
