The arms on the body are those of Bennet impaling Astley for Charles, 3rd Earl of Tankervllle, and his wife Alicia, 3rd daughter and co-heiress of Sir John Astley, Bart. of Pateshull, Stafford, whom he married in 1742. Charles died in 1767, so it is likely that this tureen was made to match an earlier one, the arms repeated. His wife died in 1775. The tureen is numbered 2 on body and cover.
The arms on the cover are those of Primrose within the Order of the Garter for the Earls of Rosebery probably for Archibald Philip, 5th Earl, K.G., F.T., P.C., D.C.L., L.L.D, F.R.S., F.B.A., F.S.A., b. 1847, married in 1878 Hannah only daughter and heiress of Baron Mayer Amschell de Rothschild of Mentmore, co. Bucks., Prime Minister, First Lord of the Treasury and Lord President of the Council 1894-95. He died in 1929.
