Born in 1944, Augustin Tzen was one of the earliest practitioners of contemporary art in Taiwan in the 1960s. Stimulated by his experiences, his works shows a continuous and avant-garde exploration of art grounded in his early days in the Hua-wai Association to his later studies in France, America and China. His solo retrospective show Sieur Augustin Tzen: A Retrospective, at the National Museum of History, Taipei, in 2015, examined the artist's seventy years of work, showcasing his seemingly unlimited artistic creativity and innovation.
