Tory Burch Cotton and Silk Handkerchief Embroidered Dress, 2020
The Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2020 collection was inspired by Lady Diana Spencer and vintage handkerchiefs–an ode to Burch’s mother who collected them for years; a tradition Tory herself now carries on. Diana Spencer’s emergence in the Eighties influenced the delicate and beautifully complex attitude of the collection. This particular gown is 65% cotton, 35% silk, and made of intricately embroidered patchwork that showcases English garden flowers. The dress, which took over 60 hours to complete, features scalloped details to mimic a handkerchief's decorative edge, adjustable crepe de chine straps, pin-tucking, lace, a satin lining, cotton voile and mesh tulle trim. The gown was styled on Jennifer Lopez in 2020 to capture family photos on Labor Day.
