A fine and rare gold quarter repeating wandering hour watch

Circa 1820, no. 7328


• Movement: gilded full plate, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm balance, unusual polished steel balance bridge, the repeating mechanism partially visible to the backplate with some parts of polished steel, two large polished steel hammers repeating on coiled gongs, signed DuBois

Dial: decoratively engraved with Chronos carrying his scythe, aperture for white enamel sector calibrated with minutes, the hours shown to a gold pointer mounted to rotating discs with white enamel roundels carrying Arabic numerals, signed beneath pendant

Case: 18k gold empire-style, engine-turned back with monogrammed cartouche A.L., milled band, repeating locking slide to left of plunge pendant, case back and pendant stamped ET, backstamped PHPI and numbered 7328, polished gold cuvette with aperture for winding and gilt-metal engraved rim
