Description
Château Lafite 1989
Pauillac, 1er Cru Classé
Excellent levels, good appearance, apart from 1 label very slightly nicked and 1 slightly soiled; Excellents niveaux, bel aspect, à part 1 étiquette très légèrement entaillée et 1 légèrement salie
Cabernet Sauvignon 67%, Merlot 33%, a very different grape variety composition compared with the higher Cabernet Sauvignon content of recent years. In 2023 and from magnum, a gloriously scented, beguiling bouquet of great breed. Fabulous cassis, woodsmoke and cedar wood, plus the intensity of Lafite layers. This is a brilliantly balanced expression of a hot, early vintage - and all at 12.5%. The seductive fruit is underpinned by the structure of its great terroir, gliding silkily over the palate with such authority and finesse. Undeniably Lafite and undeniably breathtaking. And then, from bottle, so very lush, ripe and opulent. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
