This is the first separate Aldine edition of the poems known as the Priapea, edited by Pietro Bembo, some of which were attributed to Vergil and sometimes included in editions of his works.
2 works in one volume, 8vo (157 x 95 mm). Italic type, 30 lines plus headline. collation: Catullus: A-D8 E10 AA-DD8 EE4 a-i8: 150 leaves; Priapea: a-k8: 80 leaves. Woodcut Aldine device on title-pages and final versos. (Slight damp-staining towards end.)
binding: Contemporary (Roman?) brown morocco gilt over pasteboard, border containing small leaf and knotwork tools (167 x 108 mm), lettering in center of upper cover CENIVS SVAE, and on lower cover DEDICAT DELITIAE and the letter L at foot, spine with blind-ruled saltires and tan morocco lettering-piece, edges gilt and gauffered to a knotwork design, stubs from two pairs of ties. (Binding somewhat rubbed.)
