Personnage athlétique caractérisé par un regard déterminé, un menton projeté en avant, portant un bandeau de tête finement ajusté sur lequel est inséré un coquillage saillant, une ceinture et un collier incisé sur lequel sont suspendus des pendentifs en forme d'oiseaux stylisés. La présence d'une corne au sommet d'une telle coiffe a été mise en évidence par Peter Furst dans les années 1960 et Mark Graham (The Iconography ...) a proposé pour sa part qu'un tel appendice puisse être fait dans une nacre de coquillage et soit un symbole d'autorité et de pouvoir que l'on retrouve déjà chez les Olmèques pour suggérer qu'une telle représentation humaine soit celle d'un chef de haut rang.

The hunchback shaman, with closed coffee-bean eyes whilst in a trance, pounds a snake-ornamented staff. The usage of the snake motif is referential to fertility and rebirth of this personage with supernatural powers.

Hunchbacks occupied a special position in ancient Mesoamerica and were featured among the musicians, dancers, and jesters in the Aztec court of Moctezuma II according to the early Spanish chroniclers.
