Retains an early and possibly original rush seat.


Height 33 1/2 in. by Width 22 1/4 in. by Depth 69 1/2 in.

Col. Edgar William Garbisch and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch, Pokety Farms, Cambridge, Maryland.

This is only known extant example of a Philadelphia daybed with a carved crest. While the form is unique the crest is not. An early Philadelphia chair in a private New York collection has an identical crest (see John T. Kirk, American Furniture: Understanding Styles, Construction, and Quality, (New York: H.N. Abrams, 2000).
