The tôle kettle on stand is a neat example showcasing the prevalent chinoiserie motif that captivated 18th-century Britain. Chinoiserie, an artistic style inspired by Chinese designs and aesthetics, experienced a surge in popularity among the aristocracy and upper classes of Europe during that era. This influence extended across a numerous categories of the decorative arts, profoundly shaping the work of Rococo designers of furniture, textiles wallpaper and porcelain in the mid-18th century. Notably, a comparable tôle kettle on stand, also with chinoiserie decoration, can be found in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. [M.144-1919]
