Richard Boyer earned his BFA from the University of Utah, after which he traveled and lived in Germany for five years to study language. He is established in many galleries throughout the United States and is a signature member of Oil Painters of America and the American Society of Marine Artists. He has won awards from the OPA, American Impressionist Society, American Society of Marine Artists, Plein Air Art Salon and at many other plein air events. Articles have been written about his work in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, Art & Architecture, International Artist Magazine and American Artist Magazine.
