Private American Collection

The present bronze is cast after the painting L'Amour Vainqueur by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905). In the same way that Bouguereau often drew inspiration from sculptural compositions for his paintings, sculptors were similarly inspired by his work. L'Amour Vainqueur was painted in 1886; it sold at Christie's, New York, May 25, 1984, lot 79, and is now housed in a private collection.
