CONCEPT OF ARTWORK

Ian has taken inspiration from his main signature works of controlled dynamic pouring of paint, but here his unique lines suggest the individuality of tiger stripes. The stripes are rendered in bright colourful, dynamic colours to emphasise its majestic unique beauty, contrasted against the black areas of absence and loss.

ABOUT IAN DAVENPORT (UK)

Ian Davenport studied at Goldsmiths’ College of Art in London and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1991 (the youngest ever to be selected) and was a prize winner at the influential John Moore’s Exhibition. He was a central artist of the generation known as the YBA’s (Young British Artists) and exhibited at the seminal exhibition in 1988 ‘Freeze’ with Damien Hirst and others. His work has been exhibited internationally, and is included in many public collections such as The Tate, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and The Dallas Museum of Art, Texas.
