CONCEPT OF ARTWORK
I like the way the Tiger’s been modelled. Very life-like, kind of on the prowl. It’s stealthy, just a light stalk, not really hunting just yet, not dangerous but very much a tiger being a tiger. It’s a kid’s height and it reminded me of being that size, a kid’s size and it also reminded me of how you behave when you’re that size. It’s almost as if we are able to provide our own soundtrack when we’re kids and that’s what my tiger is doing, it's a tiger, playing, stalking the undergrowth providing its own soundtrack with its grrrrs, and its roars and its purrs as it goes along.
ABOUT DAVID MACH (UK)
David Mach, born in Methil, studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art where he experimented with techniques claiming them as his own, continuing to develop them today. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in 1982, he became a Royal Academician in 2008 and was appointed professor of Inspiration and Discovery at Dundee University. Mach is one of the UK’s most successful, prolific and respected artists, known for his dynamic and large scale collage, sculpture and installations using a wide range of materials including coat hangers, matches, newspapers, sea containers.
