Chen Yingjie aka Hua Tunan

CONCEPT OF ARTWORK

Working on this tiger reminded me of the illegal tiger-trap tools and the thorn-like iron nets which I found in the forest with WWF staff. At that moment, an image of a desperately struggling tiger came into my mind. The tiger’s feeling of pain was depicted in this creation. The gold foils on the tiger’s head and tail imitate cracks of the earth or melting glaciers, implying a chain of global environmental issues.

ABOUT CHEN YINGJIE AKA HUA TUNAN

Chen Yingjie, aka Hua Tunan, is a young Chinese artist. In 2010, he studied in Raffles Design Institute in Singapore. Now, Chen works and lives in Foshan (Guangdong, China). Chen Yingjie devotes himself to Chinese ink painting, canvas oil painting and mural painting. His art is a combination of traditional Chinese ink painting art with Western graffiti art. Different media, materials and places, all these elements of painting lead Chen Yingjie to dig into the relationship between Oriental traditional ink painting and Western street art. As a result, he creates a unique Chinese graffiti style. Recently, he was named one of ‘25 Contemporary Chinese Artists You Need to Know’ by the American Complex magazine.

雕塑概念：

这次在老虎雕塑上进行创作，我以 2017 年与 WWF 工作人员前往柬埔寨保护老虎的行动为灵感。在老虎头部与尾巴上黏贴金箔营造出前行的风化感，如大地的干裂也如冰川的融化，暗示着一系列的全球环境问题。目光从头部顺延到老虎身体，能看到如荆棘般凸起的线条缠绕着老虎的四肢乃至整个身躯，这种尖锐的荆棘亦如基因的形状，或抽象得像老虎的疤痕。我想起了与 WWF 工作人员在森林找到了大量非法捕捉老虎的工具和荆棘铁网，在离开前我们破坏了这些工具，那一刻我想起老虎撕裂般的挣扎，我把这种痛苦感在这次创作中再一次表达了出来。近几年发生的亚马逊森林大火，再到全球疫情的爆发，一系列的自然形态促发了我这次创作的冲动，老虎被塑造成如风化消散的形态，试图冲出这恶劣且严重失衡的自然环境。 

世界的尽头，自然的尽头，又是哪一个方向？
