Description

Veuve Clicquot, La Grande Dame 1985

In 2019, and thanks to a very kind friend who arrived for lunch bearing this superb bottle. So pale for its age, with a hawthorn and honey nose of great breed. On the palate, glorious, seductive, winning stuff, satin Champagne with so much elegance. Flawless and a tribute to the revered winemaker of this time, Jacques Peters. In 2020, this is gloriously deep honeysuckle all through. It has utter profundity and a great lemon zest finish, turning mysteriously to orange! A chef d'oeuvre, so 'sweet' and winning, with such imperious breed. I shall never tire of this. Serena Sutcliffe, MW
