The current lot, a pair of works by Tamilnadu-born artist Kochukunhu Jayapala Panicker, showcase the painter’s signature fluid geometry and subtle gradations of colour. These works were acquired from the famous roaming Kala Yatra exhibition, organised by seminal modern Indian art collector Sara Abraham. A similar work from 1986, likewise purchased from Abraham, is part of the Victoria & Albert collection in London (IS.55-1990). Panicker studied at the Government School of Arts and Crafts, Madras, in the mid-1960s, is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards and has exhibited in solo and group shows around the world.
