Shiv Singh was born in Hoshiarpur in 1938 and then went on to study at the Punjab College of Arts. Taking on a teaching position after his graduation, Singh continued to teach and create until he was offered a scholarship in 1968 by the German government to live there and continue his research for three years. He has since held several exhibitions in Germany and around Europe, gaining both local and national recognition.
