Born in Ahmednagar in 1944, Kashinath Salve attended the Sir J. J. School of Art in Bombay, graduating in 1968. He later became a Professor of Painting and Drawing at the school. He has tirelessly experimented with his style and a range of media, shifting from painting to printing in the 1970s. Salve is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Gold Medal at the Annual Art Exhibition at Sir J. J. in 1969, and both the National and Eminent Artist of India awards at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 1995.
