Momoyama - Edo period, late 16th - early 17th century 


the pair of iron abumi of typical form, inlaid in gilt each with maru ni kikyo mon [encircled Chinese bellflower crest] surrounded with a geometric mesh pattern, the sides with florets in a trellis design, the interior with wood lining decorated in red lacquer, the underside with birds among young bamboo leaves 


Each 27 cm., 10½ in. long
