Attributed to the Iwato Ichimonji school 

Kamakura period, late 14th century


Sugata [configuration]: Shinogi-zukuriiori-mune, deep koshi zoriko-kissaki

Kitae [forging pattern]: Mokume hada with jinie, chikei and some utsuri

Hamon [tempering pattern]: Ko-nie choji-midare with kinsuji and ashi

Boshi [tip]: Ko-maru

Nakago [tang]: O-suriage, three mekugi-anamumei

Habaki [collar]: Gold, double clad

In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]

Koshirae [mount]: Of later date, the fine sprinkled aogai lacquer saya [scabbard] with ribbed surface near the tsuba, nanako shakudo fittings with gilt details in high relief, fuchi-kashira [collar and pommel] decorated with chrysanthemums, tsuba inlaid in gilt with chrysanthemum and pine


Nagasa [length from kissaki to machi]: 69.8 cm., 27½ in.

Sori [curvature]: 2.3 cm., 1 in. 

Saki-haba [width at the yokote]: : 1.6 cm., ⅝in. 

Moto-haba [width at the machi]: : 2.9 cm., 1¼ in.
