In this sensitively observed scene, the street musician who sounded his nafir trumpet each morning during the month of Ramadan to wake the population, plays it one last time to celebrate the arrival of Eid. His duty done, grateful townspeople come to their doors with offerings of fruits and sweets.

This is an earlier variant of the eponymous work exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1879.
