Please note that while this auction is hosted on Sothebys.com, it is being administered by Norval Foundation (“the museum”), and all post-sale matters (inclusive of invoicing and property pickup/shipment) will be handled by the museum. As such, Sotheby’s will share the contact details for the winning bidders with the museum so that they may be in touch directly post-sale.

Cedric Nunn (b. 1957, South Africa) began making photographs and joined Afrapix, the South African photography association, in 1982 and was a member until it closed in 1990. He has continued to work independently as a documentary photographer, while also showing work in galleries and museums in South Africa and abroad. Nunn’s original and continued intent is to document his reality all the better to understand it and engage with it, and share these encounters widely.  

 

Kids refresh themselves in the afternoon Summer heat of Pienaar Sig. Nieu-Bethesda is part of an ongoing trilogy project entitled ‘Joining the Thread: Surviving Dispossession, Genocide and Erasure. A Trilogy’. The entire trilogy project encompasses an exploration of the unsettled heritage of South Africa and its people.
