The movement is in working condition at the time of cataloguing. The dial is intact and is a warm off-white ivory. The case with only light surface wear. There is a very crisp hallmarks between the lugs at 6 o'clock. The lugs are nice and thick with good proportion. The case back with very crisp milled edge. The PP crown is original. Overall a very well retained example.

Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. Antiquorum Geneva, November 1999, lot 561

Patek Philippe introduced the reference 3428 in 1960 to replace the classic reference 2526. What differs with the two is that the reference 3428 carries the improved movement 27-460 with thinner rotor. The case is the same in terms of size and shape at 35.5 mm. The reference 3428 was available in all precious metals however there is very limited information in terms of production numbers and how long the reference was in production for. What we do know according to scholarship is that there has only been twenty 3428 in gold that have appeared on the market.

The present watch is extremely well preserved and the enamel is intact and is in a lovely off-white tone. The case is very crisp with thick lugs and crisp hallmarks between the lugs at 6 o’clock.
