Karl Georg Theodor Kotschy (1813-1866) was an Austrian botanist and explorer, who collected an impressive number of botanical specimens throughout his travels (predominantly in Syria, Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Persia, etc.). This work describes forty species of oak, some of which were contemporaneously new to science.
