Description

Château d'Yquem 1967

Sauternes, 1er Grand Cru Classé

Level just into neck, label soiled and slightly damaged at top edge

In 2021, this has moved along since I last tasted it, as displayed in a deeper colour derived from the great botrytis of this exalted year. The 'torched' crème brûlée bouquet is there in abundance, together with walnuts, 'raisins de Corinthe', Chinese tea, oranges and allspice, all reflected on the palate. The sweetness has a touch of tar from the noble rot, the complexity is intense and the depth almost surreal. One would wish to be so indestructible... Serena Sutcliffe, MW
