A gold and enamel snuff box, Jean-George Rémond & Co, Geneva, 1804-1807

rectangular with rounded corners, the lid inset with an enamel plaque painted with the Triumph of Cybele, seated between Bacchus and Ceres, after the engraving by Charles Dupuis (fig. 1), 1721, based on Louis de Boullogne the Younger's (1654-1733) paintings on the four elements (Earth), flanked by chased putti symbolising the four seasons, with the one in the top left corner holding a flower garland, the one on the right carrying sheaves of wheat, the putto in the lower right corner leaning against a wine barrel below vines, and the one on the lower left warming by a fire below fir trees, a musical trophy in the lower centre, all on a sablé ground, the sides and base elaborately decorated in a lozenge pattern alternating with leafy ornaments in steel blue and black enamel over engine-turning, the corners with stylised taille d'épargne tulips, maker's mark, later French import mark

rectangulaire à coins arrondis, le couvercle serti d'une plaque émaillée peinte du Triomphe de Cybèle, assise entre Bacchus et Cérès, d'après la gravure de Charles Dupuis (fig. 1), 1721, d'après les peintures de Louis de Boullogne le Jeune (1654-1733) sur les quatre éléments (Terre), accompagnée de putti ciselés symbolisant les quatre saisons, celui de l'angle supérieur gauche tenant une guirlande de fleurs, celui de droite portant des gerbes de blé, le putto de l'angle inférieur droit s'appuyant sur un tonneau de vin sous des vignes, et celui de l'angle inférieur gauche se réchauffant près d'un feu sous des sapins, un trophée musical au centre inférieur, le tout sur un fond sablé, les côtés et la base minutieusement décorés de motifs en losanges alternant avec des ornements feuillagés en émail bleu acier et noir sur fond guilloché, les angles ornés de tulipes stylisées en taille d'épargne, poinçon d'orfèvre, poinçon d'importation française postérieur
