Study of a Horse with Bridle and Saddle

stamped with vente 1893 Meissonier seal on the reverse

oil on panel

Unframed: 28.8 by 14.6cm., 11¼ by 5¾in.

Framed: 41 by 27cm., 16 by 10½in.

The panel appears to be four joined pieces and the join is visible on the reverse and running through the back legs of the horse and through the knees. There is surface dirt and a small circular indent to the lower left. Under ultra-violet light there is an uneven varnish and some spots of retouching appear at the centre of the horizontal join.
