A William III style polychrome and gilt verre eglomisé armorial marginal pier mirror, early 20th century


the crest with a shaped mirror decorated with William III's coat-of-arms, the marginal plates elaborately decorated with foliate strapwork on a black ground within moulded giltwood borders, the twin plates divided by a narrow gold-ground bevelled glass border

152cm. high, 73cm. wide; 4ft. 11¾in., 2ft. 4¾in.

The combination of the Stuart Royal coat-of-arms, the Je Main Tien Dray motto and the escutcheon of Nassau (a lion rampant armed with langued gules) was used by heralds during the reign of William III from the death of Queen Mary II in 1694 until his own death in 1702.
