A George I gilt gesso and giltwood mirror, circa 1720

the bevelled mirror plate within a foliate and shell carved border, headed with a broken pediment cresting centred with a plume, and with a shaped apron centred with a flower head, and flanked by detachable gilt-brass candle arms, re-gilt

95.5cm. high, 62cm. wide; 3ft. 1½in., 2ft.½in.

In overall reasonable condition, with minor chips, losses and rubbing to gilt gesso surface - notably to plume cresting - and the later gilded surface of aged appearance, revealing underlying bole. It is likely that much of the original gilding is retained. The bevelled mirror plate, apparently original with original pine backboard, displaying small losses to silvered surface. Reverse of frame with evidence of former fixing points. The brass candle arms possibly later. A nice example.
