Mezcala Stone Head, Late Preclassic, circa 300 - 100 BC

This finely sculptured head has a prominent brow, broad nose and recessed mouth area with a well-defined mouth, features typically associated with the M22 and M24 styles. Mezcala heads range in size from one to seven inches and are pierced with a single perforation at the top of the head.
