The gift of Queen Mary (1867-1953) to Lady Victoria Alexandrina Weld-Forester (1892-1966);
Thence by descent.

Lady Victoria was Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Mary from 1930 to 1937 and she held the office of Extra Woman of the Bedchamber between 1937 and 1953.

This dinner service, of Victorian manufacture, was a practical house warming gift given in the April of 1936 to Lady Victoria. It comes with a facsimile of the Buckingham Palace gift card which accompanied the porcelain inscribed in Queen Mary's hand; 'For Victoria's new flat, hope you will like the dinner set / Mary R / April 1936'. It demonstrates the keen eye, frugality and practical nature of Queen Mary.
