'Winter Sunrise, Sierra Nevada from Lone Pine, California'

gelatin silver print, mounted, signed in pencil on the mount, the photographer’s Carmel studio stamp, with title and date in ink, on the reverse, framed, 1944, printed in 1978

image: 38.1 by 48.9 cm (15 by 19¼ in. )

frame: 60.5 by 74 cm (23by 29¼ in.)

Please note the colours and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings.

This photograph is in generally excellent condition. When examined very closely in high raking light, the following are visible: a ¾-inch soft linear impression in the lower right corner; a linear deposit of original retouching in the lower right corner; and a few pinpoint-sized impressions in the lower left and lower right quadrants. The aforementioned is barely noticeable and do not detract in any way from the overall fine appearance of this print.

On the reverse of the mount are some hinge remnants along the upper and lower edges.

Although Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career, the Carmel studio stamp on the reverse of the present mount is not reproduced. The stamp, similar to BMFA 11, but with the post code '93923,' is dated with both the negative and printing dates (in this case, ‘1944’ and ‘April 1978,’ respectively) in an unidentified hand in ink.
