This work, historically attributed to Alessandro Magnasco alone, is an excellent example of the collaborative working relationship between the latter and Antonio Francesco Peruzzini. The two artists frequently worked together, Magnasco painting the figures and Peruzzini the landscape. This picture was once in the collection of the celebrated art historian Benno Geiger, author of the monograph on Alessandro Magnasco. The pendant to this painting, also once part of the Geiger collection, depicts a similar landscape with the myth of Apollo and Daphne.1
