Shortly after his move from Bristol to London in 1835, James Baker Pyne became a sought-after landscape painter whose style often followed that of J.M.W. Turner in terms of colour and composition. Other Lake District views by Pyne are preserved at Royal Holloway, University of London; Dove Cottage and The Wordsworth Museum, Cumbria; and in the Government Art Collection.1
