The insignia carved onto the panel symbolise the union of King Henry VIII and his wife Catherine of Aragon. They married in 1509 which represented an alliance between England and Spain. The insignia combines a rose motif, relating to the Tudor family, and pomegranates which are associated with the family and heritage of Catherine of Aragon.
