Verre églomisé was a popular form of decoration in the 16th century found in particular in Spain and Northern Italy. Compare the present jewel with the devotional Pendant with the Crucifixion and St. John the Baptist attributed to Lombardy circa 1550-80 and illustrated in the 2018 Les Enluminures exhibition catalogue, no 34, and the St. John the Baptist Jewel in the Metropolitan Museum New York illustrated (ibid) no 253 (inv. no. 17.190.908)
