brooch: 51.8mm., 2.04in.
This cameo with Alexander the Great is comparable with Amastini's cameo of Apollo in the Royal Collection (inv. no. RCIN 4259). Angelo Antonio Amastini was born in Fossombrone and worked in Rome (and possibly Florence). Together with his son Niccolò, he established a reputation for engraving superb Neoclassical cameos.
