After the Antique

Cameo with Aurora in her chariot

agate, within a late 18th/19th-century brooch mount

27.8mm., 1.09in.

Possibly Louis, Duc de Blacas d'Aulps (1815-1866)

Compare with two classical cameos dating to 1st or 2nd century A.D. in the Metropolitan museum New York, illustrated by Draper (op.cit. p. 13).

It is interesting to note that two cameos with near identical gold mounts to that seen in the present pendant were owned by Possibly Louis, Duc de Blacas d'Aulps (1815-1866), and are now in the British Museum (inv. nos. 1867,0507.711 and 1867,0507.750).
