Window mounted. Overall in very good condition. Light yellow stain at lower right corner and faint staining upper left section. Chalk and wash strong and vibrant. Sold unframed.

It has been suggested that this typical example of Roghman's more lyrical style represents a view on the Zuiderzee, but no more precise location has so far been identified.  Within Roghman's extensive and varied oeuvre, his drawings on this scale fall into two clear groups:  rapidly drawn studies in pen and ink, worked up with brown wash, and more peaceful, light-filled drawings such as this, executed in black chalk and grey wash.
